The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was found guilty of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than a 27-year term in prison, but he remained under house arrest pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This encompassed attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Risks

In a document approving the custody, Justice Moraes said information from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the tracking monitor to ensure success in his getaway".

This, it said, would be assisted by the confusion caused by the gathering called by his child.

His child, his son Flávio, who works as a senator, called for a gathering of his followers near his father's house to take place on the weekend.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your nation, or watch it all from your phone there on your couch? I urge you to fight with us."

He said the vigil would be so supporters could seek divine intervention for his health and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the judge's ruling was the possibility of his move to embassies near the dwelling, considering that the inquiries revealed a background of planning to seek refuge through a consular facility", a declaration said.

The legal document emphasizes that the US embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is positioned around 13km from Bolsonaro's home.

Worldwide Consequences

The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist American leader Donald Trump, prompting him to impose a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.

Bolsonaro is being held in a national police facility in the capital and will experience a custody hearing on the following day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to permit him to serve his whole jail sentence under home confinement, with tracking devices.

They also asked that Bolsonaro be permitted to leave his home for healthcare, saying he demanded frequent medical attention for pulmonary infections and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was determined responsible of heading a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the presidential race to his ideological adversary, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

High Court judges said that he was aware of a scheme which involved plans to assassinate the current president and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been overseeing Bolsonaro's trial.

The conspiracy was prevented because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the armed forces officials. The current president was took office without incident on the first day of 2023.

But a week later, on January 8th, thousands of his backers invaded and destroyed official structures in the capital, the capital city.

The security forces intervened and around 1,500 people were detained.

The judges found that the protesters had been encouraged by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the national armed forces to intervene, reestablish control and reinstate his authority.

At the moment, the legal team called the 27 years and three months sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also barred from seeking elected position until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The ex-leader called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was designed to prevent him running in the next presidential race.
