Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson stated he barely escaped a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two marshals darted across the track directly in front of him

The dangerous situation happened on the third lap when safety workers were seen on the track as Lawson was rejoining the race following an quick visit to the pits to swap his compromised front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Could you believe what happened? I might have... taken their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a brand new hard tyres, and then I got to Turn One and there were just two guys dashing across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, frankly, it was so dangerous"

Track Safety Questioned

"Clearly there's been a miscommunication somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a live track safety personnel can be authorized to just dash across the track in such a way. I don't understand the reason, I'm sure we'll get some form of reasoning, but this must never be repeated"

Official Investigation Underway

Formula 1's governing body, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the circumstances

"Following a turn one incident, race control was notified that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner" stated the regulatory authority

"During the third lap, safety personnel were notified and placed on standby to access the circuit and recover the debris once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had pitted, the directives to deploy personnel were withdrawn and a caution signal was raised in that section"

"We are still investigating what happened subsequent to that time"
