19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on court had led some to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

He saved four initial chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
